UNTEACH: A Virtual Conference about Language Discrimination in Education
Posted on June 01, 2021
This Thursday, June 3, the UK-based education initiative Shadow Heroes will host a virtual festival exploring pathways to educational spaces free from language discrimination:
The focus will be on language as a proxy for knowledge, the role language plays in creating plural spaces, and also how language is often obscured as a vehicle for discrimination. Our aim is for attendees to engage critically with techniques and approaches that work towards inclusivity in teaching.
Discussions, creative workshops, and performances will be held throughout the day and will feature educators and artists including John Agard, Preti Taneja, Jeffrey Boakye, and Raymond Antrobus. UNTEACH will be geared toward a general audience, though it will be of particular interest to middle and high school educators.
