You're invited to two free, virtual writing workshops with WWB author-in-residence Michel Nieva, co-hosted by WWB Campus and the Brooklyn Public Library! Nieva is an award-winning author and scholar whose most recent books include Dengue Boy (Astra House, 2025) and Technology and Barbarism (Astra House, 2026). His short story "The War of the Species," translated by Rahul Bery, was published in Words Without Borders' December 2021 collection "Our Nueva York: Writing the City in Spanish." This summer, Nieva will teach an English-language workshop on June 10, and a Spanish-language workshop on June 17.

What sparks a memory, and how does it transform when it blends with our imagination?
Explore this question with award-winning Argentinian author, poet, and researcher Michel Nieva. Using literary exercises inspired by writers like Marcel Proust and Octavia Butler, Nieva will teach participants to transform memories into nonfiction pieces or imaginative and speculative stories. This hour-long workshop will help you find the words to tell your own story.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Michel Nieva is a science fiction writer and the creator of “gauchopunk,” a subgenre that imagines the future and the experience of technology from the Global South. In English he has published the novel Dengue Boy (2025) and the essay collection Technology and Barbarism (2026).
His books have been translated into more than ten languages and he has received several awards, including being named one of Granta magazine’s Best Young Spanish Writers, and the O. Henry Award.
Originally from Buenos Aires, Nieva lives in New York, where he teaches creative writing at NYU.
